Using categories for individual photo galleries

I understand that the shortcode for photo gallery is [photogallery] but I would like to create individual pages of photos in a category.

Can you please advise what the shortcode is?

Go to Appearance >> Menu >> Here you can add some categories in the primary menu so these categories will be displayed in the main menu as pages.

I can add Categories under “Appearance” then “Menus”, but what do I link to, as they are not showing up?

I have also tried to create the categories in the “Gallery Category” under “Photo Gallery”, but I don’t see these when I go to there either?

Whilst this does show the photos in the particular category, it is shown in an index-type format, and it doesn’t do display in the gallery and there’s no lightbox or back/forward buttons.

I am trying to use the same look as in what happens when you use the [photogallery] shortcode but just for specific categories.

Should I use a third-party plugin instead?
