We have check the site and the loading speed is fine and the slider is working fine also for slider height smaller go to Appearance >> Theme Options >> Basic Settings >> Custom CSS >> and add this code with your height value.

I also had the same issue and I used the height suggestion that you just made but it messes up the change slide option when viewed on mobile. The arrows to change slides appear below the slider.

Can you suggest any other change options we can use that will maintain the responsive integrity of the theme?

Yes the only option is to use the images with the small height you can manage the image ratio by using this calculator.
