Can't add description to 5 homepage sections

I’m new to designing through WordPress and I’m having troubles with the Photolite theme. Under the homepage slider, there is the option to add 5 sections with a photo on each, a heading, a description and a link which I’ve done, except that there are no boxes to add the descriptions for each one. The live demo has descriptions for each section but I can’t find it, there is just a single box to enter a number for the excerpt length.

I also can’t work out how to change the font colour of the headings.

For the boxes you need to select the pages. Once you select the page it will take title and description of that page.
